Objective: To begin to understand the ideas of human rights and activism.
1.) Journal: Define the word activist. What do they do and why do they do it? What causes stick out to you that you'd like to be an activist for? Use the dialoguing that you did with the Declaration of Human Rights to help you discover this.
2.) What are human rights? (Click on where it says "The story of human rights" on the left hand side and watch the documentary). Discuss your thoughts about this video at your tables.
Time to grab a laptop! You will be doing a little self-exploration into the human rights (meaning that this is done INDIVIDUALLY and QUIETLY)
3.) Yesterday you were given the Declaration of Human Rights and asked
to dialogue with it. Choose four (ones that were unclear and you needed
more information on and/or ones that caught your interest/attention), click this link,
scroll down to the bottom, click on the right you are interested in and
watch the little video for the right. After each video, jot down your
thoughts about the following: Do you think this right needs to be
updated? Where in the world is this right not being granted?
4.) Champions of Human Rights: Choose one activist from the list (other than Martin Luther King Jr.). Would you consider this person a hero? Why or why not? If you wouldn't, would anyone? What important work did they do?
