Today's Class and Tonight's Homework 9/27/2015
Objective: To demonstrate understanding of "The Landlady" by: Roald Dahl by participating in an accountable talk discussion as well as teaching peers about a particular element of the story.
Agenda:
1) Warm-Up: Brainstory 1-3 questions or comments to bring up in our whole class discussion
2) Accountable Talk discussion about "The Landlady" by: Roald Dahl
3) Jigsaw into expert groups to discuss your specific role and make a visual for your group.
4)Jigsaw into home groups to teach your table about your story element.
Homework:
1) Go outside and do something worth writing about for tomorrow's journal.
OR
2)Scene Picture - Draw a fully detailed picture of a scene in the story that sticks out the most to you. Your picture MUST be accompanied by a quote from the story. (Use the quoting info below!)

1) Warm-up: 5 Word Work Words on your desk along with the Word Work instruction sheet.
2) Today you will be given time in class to create your first word representation. Choose one word from your group of 5 to work with and create a visual representation for it (Step 3 on the instruction sheet) This work is to be done on a piece of computer paper and handed in before the end of class.
3) If your Word Work is completed you may continue dialoging with your short story "The Lady Or The Tiger" by: Frank Stockton
4) Mini-Lesson! Showing vs. Telling sentences: In order to work on our writing and to improve the impact it has on our reader, we need to address the difference between a telling sentence ( not as exciting) and a showing sentence (where a reader can experience something). A handout was given in class and can be found here for the homework tonight.
Homework: Complete Telling worksheet (do not do the illustration, simply write your showing sentence on the bottom of the paper.)

1) Warm-Up - Please write a response in your JOURNAL to the prompt below: You’re walking through the woods and you’re stopped by a little leprechaun. He tells you that it’s your lucky day because since you found him in the woods you’re entitled to his entire pot of gold worth one million dollars. You’re ecstatic; you’re jumping all around;you can’t help bu think how awesome you truly are. And then it happens – the leprechaun tells you you can either have it but you are to give it awat to family and friends and cannot reap any benefits from it OR you can burn the money so no one can have it but everyone will know you chose not to share the money with them. What would you do?

As a class, we will read it once through and then it is your responsibility to go back and dialogue with the text. The dialoging will take a few days with an accountable talk activity at the end of it! Enjoy the story...it's one of my favorites!!

First week of school 2015!!
Welcome back! This week students will be introduced to class expectations and the syllabus. The second page of the syllabus needs to be signed and returned to ELA class by Thursday. On Wednesday and Thursday students will be working on a summer reading open response. The rough draft will be written in class on Wednesday with the final draft being written and handed in by the end of class Thursday.
Have a wonderful Labor Day weekend!
