Welcome soon to be Eighth Graders!!

Welcome to my blog, soon-to-be eighth graders!  Below you will find the link to your summer reading assignment that you are responsible for completing by the first day of school (August 30, 2016).  Along with choosing a book and reading it, there are TWO components to this project – a google form and a choice assessment project.  Make sure that both pieces are complete!

Today and Tomorrow's Class and Tonight's HW - 6/1/16, 6/2/16

Agenda:

1) "Speed Dating" - Last night for HW you were asked to find an artist and a piece of his/her work to print out and have with you today.  In 30 second phases,  you will rotate partners sharing WHO your artist is, WHAT piece you chose and WHY you gravitated towards that piece of art.

2) ART RESPONSE ASSIGNMENT
Supplies Needed:
~ Your printed painting (last night's homework)
~ A piece of blank white drawing paper
~ Blank lined paper from journal section of binder
~ Coloring supplies

Assignment Procedure:
(WEDNESDAY!!!) ~ Using the picture as a reference point, recreate it to your best ability on the blank white piece of paper.

(THURSDAY!!) ~ Next, label your picture using descriptive words and phrases (colors, textures, etc.).  I want to see SPARKLE words and phrases, so labels like "good use of color" or "kinda bumpy" aren't going to work.  If you need to consult the thesaurus, you may do so (either text form or online form - with permission)

(THURSDAY!!) ~ Using your list of descriptive words and phrases, write a 300 word (minimum) to 600 word (maximum) describing the art work you selected.  Spend some time addressing what the artist may have been feeling and/or why they painted this in this manner.  What is the painter trying to say?  Make sure you include the artist AND the title of the artwork in the topic sentence.

HW - Finish your art piece, color and/or shade it, for class tomorrow. If you didn't have a title for your art piece, find it tonight!
