Questions for The Wise Old Woman

So, apparently there was an issue with The Wise Old Woman story not being in the online text book.  I'm so sorry!!!!  Here is the link to the story, so you can still read it, dialogue with it and answer your questions for tomorrow's class.  Just keep in mind that the questions that mention specific pages or paragraphs will be off in this text, so you'll have to do some hunting!

                                                 Otherwise.....

On a piece of paper please complete the following for the Take Action component of your research assignment

1) Tell me which Take Action option you will be completing at the top of your paper

If choosing the PSA - what angle will you take to make your topic interesting to the viewing public?  jot down possible dialogue options (what would you like to talk about?)

If choosing the poster - what angle will you take to make your topic interesting?  No dumping of bulletted information allowed on your exciting poster!

If choosing the letter - do a bit of research tonight about who we could potentially reach out to that we could consider to be an activist for your cause

Today's Class and Tonight's Homework 4/26/16

Agenda:

1) "What's UP" Research Paper? - answer the question "What do I have left to do with my research paper?  Your answer becomes your homework tonight!

2) Chit Chat about the Take Action and Presentation Portions of your research assignment.

3) Folklore Introduction - please see links below!

FOLKLORE UNIT

We will be diving deep into this genre over the next week or so, and you need to fully understand each type of story in order to complete the culminating assessment.  Please take this assignment seriously.  There is to be absolutely NO talking during this activity so that you can put your full attention and focus on to this.

You will be taking your notes in OUTLINE form, set up like the example on the next page.  My suggestion is that you do NOT try to create a blank outline first because you don’t know how much space you will need between each type of story. We will go over these notes and be adding information, so make sure you leave some blank space as well!  In the past, some students found it better to use a separate piece of paper for each type of story.  It’s up to you!

Today's Class and Tonight's Homework 4/5/16

Agenda:

After a brief look at your research papers today, I addressed some issues that still needed to be taken care of.  This is your homestretch of writing and you are beginning to lose steam SO your pep talk in class today included the fact that you will be giving me your research paper this Friday!  I will then be able to edit your paper for it's FINAL rewrite.  You, as a writer, fall into one of the two categories below right now.

You either have to complete the TWO checklists below (because you didn't finish your HW last night tsk, tsk, tsk!) OR you only have to address checklist number two because you have been following directions every day :-)  No matter what, you have TWO NIGHTS to get this work done and to have a new updated version of your paper with you on Thursday. You're almost there....YOU CAN DO IT!

Checklist #1 (to be completed for Thursday!)
See yesterdays blog post for the checklist!!

Checklist #2 (to be completed for Thursday!)
Check font - (Times New Roman, size 12)
Check spacing -  entire paper is double spaced, no extra spaces in between paragraphs.  Indent at a new paragraph
Works Cited page - need to have at MINIMUM one website and one print source
Parenthetical Citations - If you are quoting in your body paragraphs you need to have (       ) at the end of the quote telling me who said it or where you found the quote!  If your parenthetical information is NOT there then you have officially plagarized information = 0!!  Don't do this!
Hook/Closing Sentences - still missing in some of your writing, use the cheat sheets, Hook/Grabber and Clincher, I gave you to complete this
No Talking Sentences or Banned Words Allowed!!! - any of these words in your essay?  Fix it please!
